    The other clues (given on the night of the Quiz in the Green Linnet) were:

    * Discovered in Ethiopia in the 15th century, spread to Egypt, Persia, Turkey, then Europe;

    * Produced from a tree with bright red berries;

    * Brazil is the world’s biggest producer, followed by Vietnam, Colombia, Indonesia;

    * The most common varieties are arabica and robusta... and of course Java (hence the reference in the Clue of the Week to the song by Gainsbourg "La Javanaise")

    Answer: coffee
