The Liffey or “Abhainn na Life” in Gaelic, which was anglicised as Anna Liffey. Interestingly to all you etymologists out there The “Ab” in Abhainn betrays its proto Indo-European linguistic origins from the Sanskrit root Ab for river as in “Punj –Ab” = 5 rivers or Do-Ab = two rivers (Jalandhar Doab = Jalandhar between the two rivers). The same proto Indo root appears in English in Avon and Afton.
